While many organisations have all the ingredients to grow smartly in the digital era, are they doing enough to nurture their biggest asset – their people? The global...
Why businesses should be more experimental with their digital transformation aims An organisation’s culture is fundamental to the successful implementation of digital transformation. The Silicon Valley motto used to be “move fast and break things”, a sentiment that has propelled businesses such as those in the San Fran-based tech oasis to the very height of success in our modern world. We are a very success-driven society. Society judges how successful we are by a number of factors and the very word ‘failure’ conjures up negative undercurrents of emotion within us. But I would argue that success means very different things to each of us and failure and making mistakes, is in fact crucial to finding success in your business, especially when it comes to implementing digital infrastructure transformations. According to our new study at Tata Communications, in conjunction with Singapore Management University – Executive Development (SMU-ExD), KPMG and DBS Bank, re-framing initiatives as ‘experiments’ that may or may not succeed, promotes a culture of learning and tolerance for risk-taking and failure. Successful outputs from agile teams can be cascaded across the organisation with a greater level of confidence, credibility and receptiveness. The study, which was launched in Singapore on November 20, 2018, outlines a number of factors that businesses must face up to, in order to propel their businesses forward in the digital age. Ridding yourself of the fear of failure, means that you are naturally more inclined to be open to experimenting to find the solutions that may work for you and the problems your business is facing. Of course, no one is suggesting that money grows on trees and experimentation should be prioritised over keeping a check on costs. But the mindset of experimentation can yield greater results than if you constantly play it safe. Some of the best results have been from thinking innovatively – there’s a reason why many big players in the technology industry are household names. Taking risks and being unafraid to fail, has paid off.
“My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.” – Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. You can find out more of our insights and receive a copy of the report
